MySpace.com Subject of Sex Assault Probe

HARTFORD, Conn. - Police are investigating whether as many as seven teenage girls have been sexually assaulted by men they met through the popular Web site MySpace.com.

The girls, ages 12 to 16, are from Middletown and say they were fondled or had consensual sex with men who turned out to be older than they claimed. None of the incidents appeared to be violent, said Middletown Police Sgt. Bill McKenna.

He said it was difficult to determine the exact number of victims because some girls have been reluctant to disclose that they met their assailants online.

The social networking Web site allows users to create profiles that can include photos, personal information and even cell phone numbers.

In a statement Thursday, MySpace.com said it was committed to providing a safe environment for its users. The site, which includes safety tips, also prohibits use by anyone younger than 14, though a disclaimer says the people who run the site can't always tell if users are lying about their ages.

and that is why you dont get friends on myspace if you dont know them! every single person on my myspace friends list i know PERSONALLY! if someone sends me a request and i dont know them they get rejected. and yes people are really stupid!

Well anyways I have a few friends on myspace I dont really know but im not stupid plus im a dude I just follow a few rules ive made for myself

NEVER tell them you're full name
NEVER agree to meet them yourself always bring someone or something to protect yourself
NEVER think who you know online is who they are in real life
KEEP all people away untell you really really really know them
FIND OUT who they are if you can

I follow these rules always and anytime I run into a crazy person all I do is block all ways from them contacting me and just cut em off

it's always worked I dont have any problems

Acutually there was a "dateline" special on that exact issue. This 25 (43) year old guy meeting up with 25 (15) year old girl.....eeeewwww.

I remember seeing one, not about myspace but chatroom predators. Man the undercover sting caught soooo many old guys. One was told to get naked before heading in and he did! The interviewer came in and man, thats got to suck. Oh well it serves them right. The sad part is the next day they got the same guy to try and meet them at a mcdonalds. He was around 37 years old, and still lived at home and tried to meet up with little boys =(
